NH Collection Reethi opens Caravela, a Spanish-Maldivian fine-diner

NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort has launched Caravela, a new fine-dining establishment that blends Spanish and Maldivian culinary traditions. The opening ceremony featured Romanian entertainer Loredana Groza as a special guest.
The restaurant's concept draws inspiration from historic caravels that connected Spain with the Indian Ocean region, symbolising the maritime trade routes that fostered cultural and gastronomic exchange between these distant lands.
Caravela currently features a seven-course degustation menu showcasing Iberian techniques with local seafood and regional ingredients. The restaurant plans to introduce three additional tasting menus, each narrating different historic voyages: Atlantic expeditions along Africa's coast, Pacific crossings to the Americas and Asia, and the Indian Ocean passage linking Africa, Arabia, India, and the Maldives.
The dining experience extends beyond food, incorporating nautical map-inspired menus and historical storytelling with each course in an intimate, limited-capacity setting. A curated wine selection complements the meals, featuring Spanish Cavas and structured reds from Stellenbosch that mirror the culinary journey.
Caravela positions itself as a distinctive contribution to Maldivian gastronomy, merging culinary artistry, historical narrative, and atmospheric design into a cohesive dining experience.
