NHGAM Sets Sights on Southeast Asia with 'I AM Maldives Roadshow' in Hong Kong & Kuala Lumpur

The National Hotels and Guesthouse Association of Maldives (NHGAM), alongside Visit Maldives and the Maldives Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators (MATATO), has launched the 'I AM Maldives Southeast Asia Roadshow'. This trade mission will bring Maldivian tourism offerings to Hong Kong on April 13th and Kuala Lumpur on April 15th, 2026.

A delegation of 20 companies with over 50 participants representing guesthouses, resorts, hotels, and travel agencies will attend. More than 120 travel trade professionals are expected, including tour operators and industry leaders.

Greater China, including Hong Kong, generated 706,033 arrivals in 2025, marking a 12.1 per cent increase from the previous year and establishing it as the number one source market. Malaysia demonstrated exceptional performance with 25.2 per cent growth, welcoming 24,847 visitors compared to 19,846 previously. Southeast Asia contributed 72,128 visitors overall, reflecting 6 per cent growth and representing 3.2 per cent of total arrivals.

Ahmed Waheed, Vice President of NHGAM, said: "Southeast Asia holds tremendous potential for the Maldives and deserves our full and renewed attention."

Ibrahim Shiury, CEO and MD of Visit Maldives, emphasised that "Hong Kong and Malaysia are important and high-potential markets for the Maldives," viewing the roadshow as a strategic initiative to strengthen regional presence and introduce the destination's unique offerings to a broader audience.
