Rainfall decline detected across the southern atolls, Met Service says

The Maldives Meteorological Service has recorded a three-year decline in annual rainfall across the southern atolls, most marked in Addu and Fuvahmulah. Officials were cautious about drawing causal conclusions, describing the data as 'a signal that needs watching.'

The Central Atolls have, over the same window, shown the opposite — a small uptick that scientists attribute to shifts in the monsoon trough.
