Plastic Free July closes with a mangrove day at Huraa

Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru closed a month of Plastic Free July programming on Sunday with a Mangrove Conservation Day at Huraa — community planting and a cleanup run with the island council, according to Visit Maldives.
The month's programming included weekly beach and reef cleans and a shark awareness day with the research organisation Miyaru. The UNDP estimates the Maldives generates more than 43,000 tonnes of plastic waste a year — about 120 tonnes a day.
