Parliament approves the death penalty for major drug trafficking cases

The People's Majlis on Thursday unanimously approved an amendment to the Drugs Act permitting capital punishment in the most serious trafficking cases where the Supreme Court bench, sitting en banc, reaches a unanimous verdict.
The Maldives has not carried out an execution since 1952.
