Maldives joins FAO Asia-Pacific regional conference

Minister Ahmed Shiyam delivers recorded statement highlighting the challenges faced by Maldives and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources of the Republic of Maldives participated in the Thirty‑eighth Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific (APRFC38).

At the conference, Minister Ahmed Shiyam delivered a recorded statement on behalf of the Maldives, highlighting the challenges faced by the Maldives and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

In his statement, Minister Shiyam outlined the Maldives’ national priorities, emphasising the need to strengthen food security, advance resilient agrifood systems, and promote the sustainable development of the country’s blue economy.

He further emphasised the need to scale up climate‑smart agriculture, empower people, notably youth and women, and articulated a transformative vision for building resilient and inclusive food systems, while calling for enhanced international collaboration to support Small Island Developing States.
