Maldives to host the 30th Session of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission

The Maldives will host the thirtieth session of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission later this year, the first time the regional treaty body has met in Malé in its thirty-year history. Minister of Fisheries Ahmed Shiyam said the hosting would be paired with a technical summit on sustainable pole-and-line methods.

The IOTC is the regional authority responsible for the shared management of tuna stocks in the Indian Ocean; member states have been in difficult negotiation through the winter over yellowfin catch limits.
