Seizures of narcotics and illegal alcohol have a combined street value of US$149 million over the two years since the Muizzu administration took office in November 2023, officials said on Friday. The figures — 1,366 kilograms of drugs and 14,825 bottles of liquor — represent, according to the police, the largest two-year haul of any administration in the past three terms.
The numbers were published ten days before the Majlis voted to permit capital punishment in the most serious drug trafficking cases, a reform critics say is unlikely to shift the long arc of the trade.
