Government Committee to Conclude Investigation on Hulhumalé Phase 2 Flats Before Construction Completion

In a significant development regarding the awarding of flats in Hulhumalé Phase 2, the government has announced that the committee tasked with investigating the process will wrap up its work before construction concludes. Newly appointed Chief Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Heena Waleed, revealed during a press conference that the committee’s efforts are progressing rapidly, with a commitment to address the concerns raised by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) before construction completion.

Heena emphasized that the distribution of apartments to rightful owners will coincide with the conclusion of the committee’s decisions. With construction ongoing on 4,000 flats contracted to Indian companies by Fahi Dhiriulhun, the process has been under scrutiny following ACC’s intervention.

The ACC’s investigations unveiled startling findings, revealing that 60 percent of the individuals listed as eligible beneficiaries were, in fact, ineligible. Moreover, discrepancies were found in nearly 80 percent of the application forms submitted. As a response, the government assembled the flat committee to ensure transparency and fairness in the allocation process.

Hamdhan Shakeel, Managing Director of Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation, provided insights into the project’s progress, indicating that all 16 towers are expected to be completed by year-end, with additional labor resources deployed to expedite the timeline.

With the committee’s diligent efforts and the commitment to rectify discrepancies, stakeholders anticipate a fair and just distribution of housing flats in Hulhumalé Phase 2.
