MTCC assigned with project to develop Malé public transport
The government has assigned state-run company Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop public transport facilities in the capital Malé region.
Ahmed Adil, state minister at the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, said that setting up bus-lines for commute within Malé and in the ‘Greater Malé’ region is one of the current government’s first 100-day pledges.
While this period expired on Monday, Adil said that the delays were caused due to immense work having to be allocated to drawing up commute routes, and procuring vehicles.
The MTCC currently handles ferry services in the Greater Malé Region, while the bus-line from Malé to Hulhulé island is handled by a separate state-run company
The Transport Ministry’s panelists told the press conference on Monday that they are working towards establishing a ‘transport master plan’, encompassing all of Maldives.
