Govt repatriates 197 people stranded in Malaysia
The government has repatriated 197 Maldivians who were stranded in Malaysia.
Several Maldivians are stuck in various countries following the suspension of international flights due to COVID-19 pandemic. The government has been working to evacuate them and bring them home.
After receiving the green light from some countries, the national carrier Maldivian has started operating repatriation flights to these countries. While the national carrier has already brought back 200 Maldivians in India and 100 in Sri Lanka earlier this week, the airline on Wednesday flew back 197 Maldivians in Malaysia. As per the current protocols, the 197 people are now quarantined at the quarantine facilities.
Maldivian will be undertaking additional repatriation trips to India, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.
