COVID-19 patient in critical care after seizure
Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that COVID-19 patient in the Maldives is in critical condition after suffering a tonic-clonic seizure.
In a tweet on its official account, HPA stated that the patient is a Bangladeshi national and was moved to IGMH hospital after the seizure. The person had tested positive for COVID-19 and was now in critical condition. No further details regarding the patient is available for now.
Maldives has now confirmed 551 cases of COVID-19. The majority of the cases had been identified in the congested capital of Male' after a community outbreak of the virus was discovered on April 15. The capital is in lockdown and under curfew since then.
Out of the confirmed cases, an overwhelming majority of the cases had occurred in the migrant worker population of the Maldives. The official figures show that 282 Bangladeshi nationals have tested positive for the virus while 191 Maldivians have also tested positive. A further 52 Indian nationals have also tested positive for the virus with fewer numbers of cases also identified from Sri Lankan, Nepali and Pakistani nationals.
